Interactive Fiction 1.0

http://philome.la/Cooltre212/the-limbo-distortion

The assignment for creating the interactive fiction was by far, the most intriguing and aw inspiring in the course. Although seemingly terrifying at first, Twine made coding seem more simplistic and easier to approach. I really appreciate this, because it makes it easier, as well as more comfortable for me to dive into the assignment. Not to mention the ability of creating an actual story out of the coding. Creating the story from original thought, was also something I found exceedingly entertaining. This made the assignment more worth while. Not to say the actual coding itself wasn’t, because it most certainly was. But rather the fiction is more of the icing on the cake per say. However, I will say the coding did create numerous problems, such as the manipulation of the variables. This by far was the most irritating in the assignment as a whole. The application and coding is very particular and specific about what is displayed and typed up. It would be easier for auto-corrects, but I suppose that would make things too easy. However, with that being said, this also made the assignment more thrilling and exciting. This is primarily because the application’s complexity made the pain and despair of learning the format and coding, a more rewarding type of satisfaction once you’ve learned and completed what your sought out for. This made the assignment thrilling, which I certainly appreciated. In conclusion, this final assignment was spectacular. I wish to do more assignments like these in the future. This assignment also has given me idea’s for possibly taking future computer science courses in the future. And frankly, I have this assignment and course to thank.

Video Essay

The Marvel industry has had an impact on readers and viewers for generations since as early as 1939. Creating a large list of characters from various backgrounds, such as different countries, personalities, traits, flaws, etc. Because of these various backgrounds, fans of the industry have found ways of relativity with these characters. However not just with being relateable, but also a connection with loving the characters background, lore, abilities, etc. This leads to the fan wanting to experience more from the characters, which in turn, creates a need for the writer/illustrator to create more to provide for the fan. This all extends from the character being relateable and being aimed towards a particular crowd. With that being said, Relatebility is great for capturing the attention of the crowd your trying to appeal towards. For example, Spider-Man was created to appeal towards to average student. Dealing with bullies, academics, girls, etc. Iron Man, although a billionaire, was created to appeal towards the crowd that’s delt with addictions. In this particular case, the abuse of alcoholism. The fantastic four is the modern family, and namor the submariner is a individual who is doesn’t feel like he belongs with the rest of society. However there are characters who have stronger connections with individuals because of struggles and fights that they go through. Examples, such as the x-Men and Inhumans , go through racial discrimination that makes society look down upon them. Characters like these find ways to fight against the odds, and still maintain the heroism life style. This goes well for individuals, who feel they can aspire to be more like a character. The primary goal of this video is to create and understand, that marvel characters can create a realm of relateablity with using harsh life situation and even economic status.

I found the use of the camera and recording equipment to be an interesting change in filming. It creates a new field of depth and expertise that I feel you’d need time to control, learn, and master. That being said, I had multiple issues with the equipment, in regards to figuring the functions of the tech. However, once I got the setting to my liking and recorded the footage I needed, I soon discovered the Footage I worked hard on consisted of no audio. Not only that, but the videos couldn’t be processed over to the editing softwares. This made the footage useless, and the time spent recording for nothing. However, I had to make up with shorter less quality film in order to achieve the criteria of the assignment. This proves to be stressful and very unnecessary However outside of the equipment issues, the assignment was fun to experience. And the top of choice was fun to dig into and discuss.

Games of Progression and Emergency

The topic I want to cover is an argument based on Jesper Juul examination of emergence and progression in gaming. In this, he discusses the fundamentals and technicality of different procedures in order to create a game that guarantee’s a fun experience for the players. As a gamer myself, I find challenges to make a game more ideal, in order to help me think and give me an adrenaline rush of accomplishment when I achieve a goal. I find these to be ideal for any game of any form of genre or difficulty

I find it also necessary to allow numerous forms of accomplishments in a game to help create different scenarios to achieve a goal. Sure they are the all motives in order to achieve the goal of the game that was primarily for the game, but it kind of helps build of feel of accomplishment and non-abnormality in comparison to the average player. Examples like this are games such as Until Dawn, The Walking Dead, etc.

In all I find the game creation methods that Juul discusses to be interesting. Not just from the prospective of a gamer, but rather from basic fundamentals of requirements that will help towards to needs and emotional of an individual in need of entertainment.

Is Biking To Work Ideal?

The use of an automobile, has become the traditional form of transportation for mankind. However there are other means of transportation that can be seen as more beneficial for individuals. One example is the use of the bicycle. Biking to and from work has many advantages for being a good form of transportation. However, there are just as many disadvantages as there are advantages. Some advantages for biking to work include being efficient, saving money and gas, and a great way of being healthy. When it comes to traveling to and from work, biking is an excellent form of exercise. It’s a good form of cardio and keeping the body young and energized. It also helps develop the glutes, hamstrings, and calves.

Although this is beneficial for exercise and creating a more healthy lifestyle, this will dramatically decrease your stamina. Individuals are more likely to become more exhausted when arriving to and from working. Which will also increase the likelihood of higher stress levels . Biking can also be efficient in comparison to using a vehicle. Vehicles tend to use gasoline which is a natural gas that is considered finite on earth. Although some vehicles are considered to be smart vehicles and don’t require gasoline to function, the vast majority of the planet use vehicles that run on gasoline. Riding a bike don’t require the use of gasoline or electricity, but rather operated by the individual. This helps to create a more eco friendly environment, and help the earth improve and repair itself. It isn’t a huge change that’ll change the world immediately, however, it is one step into the right direction to help create a more environmentally friendly place.  Although eco friendly, other problems may prove troublesome. For instance, biking isn’t nearly as fast as any car, truck, etc. An individual is more restrained by stop signs, cross walks, and various other things. A vehicle isn’t nearly as restrained as a bicycle is. Besides street lights and pedestrians, vehicles are more capable of arriving to destinations at faster speeds, compared to the restraints of riding a bike. Biking also restricts the type of clothing one can wear when riding to and from work. For example, clothing of professional attire would be rather uncomfortable and unfitting for bicycling. Not to mention the amount of sweating that would accumulate as a result of the extra effort of traveling from location to location. An individual could also use biking as an opportunity to be social and communicate with new individuals This however, can forfeit what little time an individual could have from reaching to work. Although biking to and from work may appear as financially stable and an eco friendly choice, it isn’t specifically easy. There are numerous problems that fall behind using a bicycle instead of a vehicle to work. However, every individual is different, as well as their reasoning for so.

The Concept of Video Essays

Video essays are a rather interesting concept in the realm of media.   Paula Bernstein is a filmmaker who brushes over this topic. Paula believes video essays to be a form of filming, but rather retelling the tale or scenario. This could be for the creator to re-imagine the scenario, or leaving it up to the audience. This works by taking individual scenes and switching up the placements in order to tell a different story or scenario.

” One of the most interesting things about this particular form is that there aren’t any rules, or rather that there is no firm set of such rules. The video essayists tend to make up the rules as they go along. The one thing that binds all of them of course, is a love of film itself. “- Paula Berstein. This is interesting because it give video essays to appear as a separate reality from normal film production.

I found editing to be a primary concern when it came to the photography and uploads. I uploaded the photos to various editing softwares, and was capable of altering the contrast, lighting, shadow value, etc. However, as I attempted to upload the images, I found it weird that the images would fail to show any signs of edits.

Is Photography Truthful or a Lie?

In July 8th, 2009, a Scott Rosenberg made an interesting point in regards to worth and value of photography, and what they mean to us. I used an imaged I personally captured in New Orleans

He described photography as a means of exiting a state of reality. Which intrigues me, because a photo to me is merely a pocket dimension held within a camera. Holding and storing traces of information from our own reality. Presenting a hand held memory of what was, but in reality isn’t. A photograph is meant to represent truth. For example, Scott Rosenberg stated that the words of an individual, has less worth than a picture. Sure an individuals word may have worth, however it can only go so far. A photo can never truly lie to you. In fact, photography is quite sincere when it comes to displaying factual evidence. This however is ironic, considering photography is considered to be non-realistic.

Scott Rosenberg views on photography are aw inspiring. I agree with the many points that are stated. I am mainly self taught, and personally view photography as a means of capturing a memory in it’s own form of reality, separate from our own real world.
